18. Top meme costumes of 2010

2 Nov

Here are the top meme costumes from this years Halloween. If you don’t know what that means don’t worry, either did I. I have been hearing about a term “meme” (pronounced like it rhymes with cream) a lot in the media. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary:

meme noun \ˈmēm\ Definition of MEME : an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture

or Wikipedia (my favorite guilty pleasure for info):

A meme (pronounced rhyming with “cream”) is a postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena.

What I am focused on specifically is internet memes, which are described as concepts that spreads via the internet. Basically, it is the subject for anything that can go viral. Last week urlesque.com, run by AOL, released their list of The Top Meme Halloween Costumes of 2010. These costumes are considered memes because they represent or replicate viral images, video and trends that are surging through the internet right now.
